Washburn Area Silent Trails
The Washburn Area Silent Sports Trails are located on Oneida County forest lands west of Rhinelander. Perch Lake County Park hosts the main trailhead. Trailhead features a picnic area on the shores of a spring fed lake, a warming shelter with covered outdoor patio and fireplace, and restrooms.

Trail Fees:
Oneida County Trail Pass required $5 per day / $30 annual
There are 13 miles of professionally designed and built single track mountain bike trails and a new pump track. The trails are designed to accommodate all skill levels, with most of the flow trails and jump lines located near the trailhead, while the more technical “old school” hand-built trails and rock gardens are furthest from the shelter.
The 21.6 kilometers (13.4 miles) of ski trails have multiple loops and are groomed for both skate and tracked classic skiing. The hilly glacial topography is a draw for intermediate and advanced skiers, while beginners will also find moderate trails leading from the parking lot.
The trail system also includes 13 miles of ungroomed and marked snowshoe trails with multiple routes to please everyone, the novice snowshoer as well as the more spirited adventurer. These snowshoe trails are popular with fat bikers.
New for winter 2022-2023! 3 miles of fat tire bike trails are being groomed! The fat tire route starts at post 18 and follows the red trail to No BS, No BS to More BS, at post 16 follow red trail back to Perch Lake Parking & Judy Swank Shelter.
Note: Snowshoes, fat bikes, foot travel, and dogs are not allowed on ski trails when they are snow covered.
Nose Lake Trails
Nose Lake ski and snowshoe trails are located west of Rhinelander and offer 12.5 kilometer (7.8 miles) of trail. The trails feature gentle topography in remote county forests, making the system very popular with skiers possessing either a beginner or intermediate skill set.
A most popular feature of the Nose Lake Trail is that dogs are permitted on the entire system.
There is also a portable restroom in the parking area.

The east and west loops of the Nose lake ski trails are mowed periodically throughout the summer months. The west loop is most popular and offers 3 miles of hiking and biking on gentle topography. The east loop is 5 miles and is also hiked by many.
Nose Lake ski and snowshoe trails are located west of Rhinelander and offer 12.5 kilometer (7.8 miles) of trail groomed for traditional tracked skiing. The trails feature gentle topography in remote county forests, making the system very popular with skiers possessing either a beginner or intermediate skill set.
The Nose Lake trails also feature multiple snowshoe routes totaling 2.3 miles, blazed through balsam forests, oak and maple ridges, and stands of aspen, white and red pine.
Cassian Two-Way Cross Country Ski Trail
The Cassian Two-Way cross country ski trail is located west of Rhinelander and can be accessed from multiple trailheads. The main trailhead is at 7578 County Highway K, but this entire trail can also be accessed from the Washburn Silent Sports Area if a longer route is desired. The north end of the trails ranges from Beaver Lake Road to Sheep Ranch Road.
There are no restroom facilities.

The Cassian Two-Way cross country ski trail is mowed periodically throughout the summer months for your hiking and biking pleasure, with the north end receiving the most attention. The trail is 9 miles in length, or 18 miles round trip, and is located west of Rhinelander and can be accessed from multiple trailheads, including from the main trailhead at the Washburn Silent Sports Area. The trail gently rolling terrain is designed to accommodate users with a wide range of skills.
Dogs are permitted in the summer months when trails are not groomed for winter skiing.
The Cassian Two-Way cross country ski trail is located west of Rhinelander and can be accessed from multiple trailheads. The main trailhead is at 7578 County Highway K, but this entire trail can also be accessed from the Washburn Silent Sports Area if a longer route is desired. The 14.5 kilometers (9 miles) of trails are groomed for traditional tracked classic skiing to provide a round trip of 29 kilometers through remote county forests. The gently rolling terrain is designed to accommodate users with a wide range of skills.
Of special note, the trail is a very social trail providing side by side skiing with friends.
Dogs restricted: Dogs are only allowed on the winter ski trail north of Sheep Ranch Road.
Enterprise Trails
The Enterprise Winter Silent Sports Trail is located 8 miles south of Rhinelander on Hwy G, with the trailhead at the parking lot at the Zimmer Road entrance.
A winter trail only, this trail is unique as it traverses through peat bogs, black spruce swamps, navigates glacial eskers, and crosses the Enterprise Hemlocks State Natural Area with stands of mature mesic forest heavily dominated by Hemlock, many over 200 years old with some dating back to 1720 A.D, as such, much of this area is only accessible in winter.
Dogs are permitted.
Please, no foot traffic without wearing snowshoes.

A winter trail only – no summer access. This trail is unique as it traverses through peat bogs, black spruce swamps, navigates glacial eskers, and crosses the Enterprise Hemlocks State Natural Area with stands of mature mesic forest heavily dominated by Hemlock, many over 200 years old with some dating back to 1720 A.D.
The trail is groomed for fat-tire biking, snowshoeing, and back-country skiing. The trail has both an 8 mile long loop, and a shorter cut-off creating a loop of almost 4 miles.
Mud Lake Trails
The gently rolling topography includes hardwoods, aspen, pine, and the oh-so-popular cedar swamp. Several private landowners allow access to their property to make this trail system available for your enjoyment. Please respect their property by leaving it better than you found it.
There are no restroom facilities.
Dogs are permitted.

These trails include over 8 miles of mostly hand built technical singletrack.
There is an easy peddling core artery which is machine built. This artery allows you to access the singletrack as it crosses in numerous areas.
Features: The rocks, roots, and boulder rollovers are sure to test your balance, technical skills, and level of cardio endurance. There is even a floating log ride with a water handicap that several adventure seekers have endured.
Dogs are permitted in the summer months.
Enjoy eight miles of trails groomed every winter specifically for fat biking and snowshoeing.
