After receiving a paltry 1 inch on Monday morning we cleaned up the skate deck, but didn’t touch the classic tracks. We want the new snow to be skied over, so as to cover some ice that was making up the tracks in spots.
Same thing goes for Cassian. A portion of the tracks especially on the North loop were icy as of Sunday. Once the new snow is skied into the tracks they should improve.
Trails were groomed Thursday night and are in good shape.
There is logging at the North end of Terry’s Loop so please be careful and considerate of those working.
We received 3 inches of snow yesterday. This allowed us to reset the tracks on both trails. The cold temperatures will allow for some solid tracks, and prime skiing conditions.
Approximately 2-3 inches of new snow was groomed this morning. All classic tracks were reset. There are a few areas with dirt in the tracks so pay attention. Deck looks really nice. No visible dirt at this time. Deck remains thin in some areas.
Good news for classic skiers. There is now a track at Washburn. The track is not consistent throughout. Those sections of trail designated as track skiing only will have a nice track. For those of you familiar with Washburn, that would mean the classic double track from Kiosk C to G, and the landfill loop, The remaining segments of the “outer” loop will have some marginal track. There remain a few stretches where no track was set….too little snow, and some dirt. The skate deck was also renovated, and is in good condition.
Cassian and Nose Lake were not worked. One simple reason, not enough snow. We are leaving those tracks, as they are holding up under the conditions.
The skate deck was reset this afternoon. Groomers put the teeth down into the deck trying to mix last nights fluff with the old snow. With the cold temps. , the trail will harden in no time at all. Still do not have classic tracks…we need more white stuff.
Well skiers, its been a dry week. The promised snow didn’t materialize, except for a dusting on Wed. However our trails are still open, but you may want to use those “B” skis.
We brushed up the Washburn trail yesterday. With the lack of snow, debris is beginning to collect, and the deck is thinning in a few spots, but its is still very skiable. Also keep in mind there are no classic tracks at Washburn.
For Cassian and Nose Lake we didn’t do anything with the tracks that were put down last week. Cassian has had less travel on it than Nose Lake, and the tracks were still looking ok, but like Washburn, debris is collecting in the tracks. The wetland stretch between Goodyear Lake Rd. and Timber Lake Rd, is rough.
At Nose Lake, the track was hanging in there, but has seen a lot of traffic, not only from skiers, but deer. More vegetation is poking through on the East Loop, especially in the open areas. Also some small bare spots are appearing in the logged area. In the woods, the track was still ok. On the West Loop, more pine needles are making their way into the track, but it is not widespread.
Until more snow arrives, we are shutting down our grooming operations for fear of making things worse.
With that said, we’re wishing everyone a Happy Holiday season, and happy skiing.
There was about an inch of new snow on the trail after grooming Thursday. We did not set tracks as the depth of snow is not consistent enough. The track set towards the Cassian trail has several dirt spots showing. In general, the deck is firm and pretty good. I skied before grooming and it was starting to break down on some of the uphills as the snow is very dry. With the cold temps tonight, the deck should be pretty stiff in the morning. There are a few, and I mean just a few, patches of leaves that have been turned up. You can easily avoid these and I used my good ski’s tonight.
Both trails had classic tracks set today. The tracks appeared to set up nicely, especially with the cold temps. There will be patches of vegetation poking through in spots, but certainly nothing to warrant rock skis.
At Nose Lake there are some bumpy spots in and around where the last logging operations took place.
